Onvia’s economic stimulus spending tracking website, Recovery.org, was featured in a recent article in the Washington Post. In “Tracking Stimulus Spending May Not Be as Easy as Promised,” the Post examines the hurdles that government stimulus tracking is struggling to overcome, and the ways that Recovery.org, a private sector site, has the advantage when it comes to tracking economic stimulus dollars.
Although transparency initiatives were a big part of passing the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, federal, state and local government agencies are having a hard time providing stimulus spending information in enough detail. Recovery.gov, the website created by the federal government to track stimulus spending, is still in its infancy, and may never provide transparency at the dollar or even contract level.
Enter Recovery.org, which was built using Onvia’s unique government business intelligence tracking. Since Onvia already tracks every dime of federal, state and local government spending, Recovery.org is able to provide information on where stimulus spending is going far sooner – and in far greater detail – than Recovery.gov.
