Seattle, WA — Recovery.org has emerged as the leading online information source for accurate and timely transparency and accountability in stimulus spending. A senior executive from Onvia, the company that created Recovery.org, has been invited to testify before the Subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight of the House Committee on Science and Technology on Tuesday, May 5th at 2:00 p.m.
The hearing is entitled, “Follow the Money Part Two: Government and Public Resources for Recovery Act Oversight.” The purpose of the hearing is to evaluate the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act’s (ARRA) initiatives to promote transparency and to solicit public involvement.
Eric Gillespie is the Chief Information Officer of Onvia, a Seattle, Washington information services company that compiles and standardizes data from more than 89,000 sources at all levels of government. Onvia launched Recovery.org on March 31st to comprehensively track ARRA spending by federal, state and local government agencies. The site allows businesses, citizens, and journalists to view funded projects by state, county and city. The site is updated in real-time as projects are announced.
Gillespie has been asked to recommend improvements to the Recovery.gov portal to help the public evaluate the progress and success of the Recovery Act. Gillespie’s testimony will also address how Onvia came to establish the Recovery.org website and the taxonomy behind Onvia’s unique tracking system.
Other witnesses for the hearing include Earl Devaney, chairman of the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board, and Gene Dodaro, Acting Comptroller General of the U.S. and head of the Government Accountability Office.
The House Committee on Science and Technology’s Subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight is chaired by Rep. Brad Miller (D-NC). Tuesday’s hearing will take place in 2318 Rayburn House Office Building
